Description
From Harvey (Figaholics): October 4, 2015
Finally picked our first Coll DE Dama Blanca-Negra. This tree was rooted in January and got off to a slow start but is now growing well. This fig produces two types of fruits, both white and Black figs on the same branches. According to the book by Mr. Pons, the Black figs average 38.6 grams while the white figs average 32.5 grams. This is the only fig we'll get for the year, a Black fig weighing 30 grams. Flavor was pretty good, especially since it's been rained on twice in the past week and weather has been cool.
From French Fig Farm:
This is another variant of the "Collar of a Lady" or "Collier d'une Dame", in French, type figs. This one in particular was found in Spain with the translation to Spanish of "Coll DE Dama". The tree will produce both light skinned and dark skinned figs on the same tree.
This is a rapidly growing fig tree that has leaves as big a dinner plates.
It's a sweet, firm, thick and fruity tasting fig. The skin is a thinner than the other Coll DE Damas we have had. We are getting abundant, nice ripe figs here in zone 7a New Jersey at the end of August. They are fruity and sweet. As these fig dry on the tree the flavor intensifies and reminds us of the molasses and dark brown sugar flavors of a Banana Flambé.
Very flavorful, rare and desirable. One of my favorites.
