Description
NJ Red - the original post was by a fellow Tallahassee fig enthusiast who actually got me (Frank, aka FMD "> FMD on OurFigs) started with the Fig4Fun forum in 2009 after giving him a tour of my property. His name is Jimmie (JD) who has unfortunately stopped participating in the forums. The original tree was gifted to me while still living in New Jersey without a backstory. I hauled it (along with a dozen others) to Tallahassee when we moved in 1995.

Interestingly, this variety was one of the first to be gifted to Wills when he was a neophyte just starting off in figs. This post is of an SUV running over the mother tree and surviving.

It was not a sweet fig - not as sweet as Celeste but it was juicy, rich, and a complex berry like flavor with a nice crunch. I needed more than two fruit to say anything more and there are more to ripen. This Unknown Purple [Franks call this fig NJ Red] is definitely a good fig.
