Description
This is another variety by Montserrat Pons. According to him, it was rescued from the mother tree obtained in Artà where the variety originates. The variety ‘Del Sen Jaume Gran’ of Manacor and Artà where it was known and cultivated towards the end of the 20th century. The name comes from the anthroponym “Sen Jaume Gran” as a treatment given to the old Mallorcan farm workers, wise and knowledgeable experts of the rural and agricultural world.
This variety has quite large and colorful figs, qualities that optimize the harvest for fresh consumption and that the fig tree is a variety worthy of being more widespread and cultivated. It is thick, greenish, slightly flattened, made of very thick leather, very sweet. The flesh is deep red, and excellent flavor. The skin presents a cracked fine, thick and rough medium to the touch. They have a good peeling ability but a difficult abscission of the peduncle. They are very resistant to rain and dew, transport and medium to the opening of ostiolo, and depending on weather conditions have a greater or lesser susceptibility to detachment.
