Description
Victoria. Described and figured by Estelrich (1910) from trees grown near Porreras and Inca, Mallorca. Figs small, Black ; stalk reddish; pulp bright red.
Wikipedia Translation
Victoria is a cultivar of fig type common fig Ficus carica, unÃfera of figs with skin color on purple background with blackish. It is grown in the collection of fig trees of Montserrat Pons i Boscana in Llucmajor Balearic Islands.
Synonyms
''Victòria'' in the Balearic Islands, ''Victori'' in the Balearic Islands.
History
He currently cultivates it in his collection of Balearic fig trees Montserrat Pons and Boscana, rescued from a specimen or mother fig tree in ''MÃner'' by Josep Sacares i Mulet in Mallorca.
Estelrich gave him the name he has today, as soon as he appreciated his qualities.
The 'Victoria' variety is known and cultivated in the terms of Inca and Porreres.
Features
The fig tree 'Victoria' is a uniferous variety of the common fig type. Medium-sized tree, scattered foliage with hanging branches, the central part of the crown clearing, the leaves are concentrated at the ends of the branches. Its leaves with 3 lobes (10%) tend to be majority, 5 lobes (10%) and with 1 lobe (5%). Its leaves with teeth present and serrated margins, present an abundant hairiness on the underside. 'Victoria' has a great release of figs having an average production of figs. The apical bud is conical greenish yellow.
The 'Victoria' figs are elongated piriform figs similar in appearance to the 'Negra de Valencia' variety, which do not have paired fruits, about 28 grams on average, of thick purple-colored epidermis with a blackish color. Ostiolo from 0 to 1 mm with small purple scales. Long peduncle of 5 to 12 mm cylindrical reddish. Thick and thick longitudinal cracks. Poor ribs. With a ºBrix (sugar grade) of 28, tasty sweet flavor a little pasty, with medium firmness, with pink pulp color. With medium internal cavity. They are of a beginning of maturation on September 2 to October 16 and of average production. They are resistant to rain.
Good for fresh fig. Good peeling facility, and easy abscission of the peduncle. Highly resistant to climatic accidents.
Victoria was my absolute favorite of all the figs with Black exterior, red interior. It was just the perfect expression of this style of fig. It was a close call between this, Violette de Sollies and Genovese Nero AF but I would go with Victoria. Puts Black Madeira/Preto to shame in my opinion.
