Description
From Don (dondan):
I read that it was selected by Domenico Tauro, the mayor of Terlizzi (near Bari in Puglia) at the end of the 18th Century, and that it's also called Nero di Terlizzi. One respected Italian seller claims the fruits can reach 300 grams - 300 !!!
From Rewton:
This is an excellent and rare variety from Italy. It has a reputation for producing large figs (i.e. well over 100 g) but the two figs I have gotten off of my young tree were not that large. There is some disagreement about whether this is a Common Fig or a San Pedro type. I was able to get a couple ripe fruits off of mine in September of 2017 that I thought were Main crop but could have been late developing brebas. (Note that in 2017 the tree was only in its 2nd season and the timing of fruiting is probably not going to reflect what you would have from a mature tree.) I remember the fruits being very tasty. This past Spring I planted mine in ground and didn't get any fruit as the plant put its energy into its Root system which is not unusual.
