Description
The Sodus Sicilian fig variety was discovered growing in upstate New York by a well known fig collector. the large pinkish tan oblong figs have a very sweet flavor and are often described as tasting peachy. Sodus Sicilian was named for the town of Sodus in which it was discovered. Sodus is bordered to the north by Lake Ontario, so it has proven to survive even the coldest winters with lake effect weather. Further, Sodus Sicilian is not known to split or sour due to rain. The rich peach flavor is this fig’s defining characteristic and many have noted an aftertaste of caramel.
