Description
Exquisito is really a unique variety. The first two crops that it bears quickly metamorphose, within just a matter of days, from a green fig, to a rimada-striped fig, and then to pitch Black with a starry fielded exterior when it is ripe. These first two crops have a very sweet, fruity/berry flavor which Steve ( fruitnut ) rated as a 9/10 at the end of this past July, equal to Thermalito and Preto at that time. The first crop ripens late July, early Aug; the second crop late Oct early Nov. Both of these crops are Black skinned with a starry white field. Exquisito also bears a third crop, ripening here in Dec, and it has a markedly different personality. Again this year, these figs have developed a gray (smoky greenish/purple) exterior and the flavor once again does not disappoint. This crop has a strong Banana / Strawberry Yogurt flavor to it, as it did last year. (The tree was in its second year last year, and it is common for a shift in taste to occur with many varieties. So, I wanted it to get another year under its belt before commenting on the flavors of the different crops) It is indeed a keeper!
