Description
The Iraqi fig is a unique variety from the Ficus Palmata family, known for its vigorous growth and heavy production. This variety produces small to medium-sized figs with dark purple to Black skin. The interior flesh is sweet, with a distinctive fig flavor and moderate seed crunch. The leaves of the Iraqi fig are notable for their unique serrated or spade shape, often described as fuzzy or heart-shaped.
This fig variety is Self-Fertile , meaning it does not require fig wasps for pollination, making it easier to grow in various climates. The Iraqi fig is particularly well-suited for tropical climates, where it tends to grow better in the ground compared to other figs. It can also be grown successfully in containers, making it versatile for different growing conditions.
BrianM:
Ficus Palmata Iraqi is a very special variety that I’m very happy to be able distribute. Let’s see, it’s very vigorous and super easy to Root . Much more forgiving then Ficus Carica. It’s a Common Fig and extremely productive with spade leaves. The fig ranges unpollinated 30-40grams. I can only imagine the difference pollinated. Obviously it hasn’t fruited yet for me but my mother tree is growing quickly so should get figs soon. My friend said it’s very sweet and juicy with a unique flavor profile. It’s eye is closed and seals with honey. Rain resistant which is a huge bonus. He gave me some photos to use these are his. This tree is growing quickly and rooted well. Also grown outside so no need to acclimate.
Trees of Joy: Describes the Iraqi fig as a very sweet, almost seedless variety that is unique compared to regular figs. It bears early and continues producing over an extended period
FigFair: Highlights the fig's tasty dark purple to Black fruit with a sweet honey-like flavor and heart-shaped leaves. It is noted for being easy to Root and very productive
