Description
From Brian Melton:
Yes this fig is next to an Apple . It is a very old Portuguese variety called Lungo del Portogallo. This fig makes an interesting Breba crop with elongated brown colored figs that sag down. The Main crop is large with many of them over 100 grams! They are very juicy and sweet. More of a figgy flavor no berry. My little tree is very productive and we will be continuing to propagate this variety for our orchard. A Common Fig which means anyone can grow it.

A prolific good tasting Black Portuguese fig brought to the US from Lisbon Portugal. It is cold tolerant, requiring winter protection in zones 7 and lower. In different regions of Portugal, they call a few different figs by this name. Its a rather "naughty name". Its related to the shape of the first crop (elongated) and that kind of resembles - to some eyes at least - a penis. That is what the expression Caralheto means - shaped like a penis. In some regions of Portugal it is also called Bêbera do Gêres while in other regions, the more popular name is Lungo del Portogallo.
