Description
Lee Ann (SacredOrigin):
So excited to finally be able to offer this yummy fig. Watermelon is a green fig with purple and red highlights with some light stripes. When properly ripe, the upper neck of the fig turns golden. The figs have a rich flavor of watermelon and a closed eye. Skin is medium thick, not chewy and not rice paper thin. Pulp is half golden on upper side and half red lower when pollinated. I suspect that the fig will have more golden vrs red when not caprified/pollinated. Ripens early to mid Aug in zone 9b. Has smaller Breba crop, prolific Main crop . Picts are of Main crop .
Mike (The1FigMan) describes it as:
From the collection of SacredOrigin, the Watermelon Fig:
You can hear SacredOrigin describe the flavor of this recently discovered fig at timestamp 15:20 in this video. This one of a kind fig has strong notes of sweet watermelon! The fig is very refreshing on a hot summer day. Pop the fig into the fridge for 30 minutes before eating to cool it down, cut it up and put it on a salad. This is a unique, rare, and delicious fig. Start your cuttings now to have a tree of fruit next summer!
