Description
Easton Vasilika comes from Easton, MD where it was planted more than 50 years ago by a plant collector/breeder. It has been identified as Vasilika Melissi, but by any name is an outstanding fig.
BrooklynMatty: So this was my first Adriatic type to ripen, let’s just say holy moly guacamole!!!!! Green figs with intense berry insides are probably my favorite class of figs, just because they almost never dissapoint. This was the best fig I had of this variety and I have a ton more on tree, so this is a definite winner in my yard and has its forever home ?
I’m really trying my best to ripen this like Brent (hoosierbanana) did in the past. When he ripened it, it was almost purple inside….so we will see if it can live up to that color. Will report back throughout the season on if this gets better and I can let it have some hang time.
Harvey at Figaholics says:
Easton Vasilika is a fig we received from our friend Brent back east, something he discovered. This is a productive tree that is a mid-season or slightly later fig for us. Fruits are medium in size, have a chewy texture, sweet to very sweet, light berry flavor and a honey taste.
