Description
Eric Durtschi release 12-19-20:
Today, we went to a beach a beach that’s a little farther away than usual because the waves were pristine and my kids are getting pretty good at surfing so we wanted to take advantage of the beautiful sun and waves.
As I pulled off the main road, I spotted a likely seedling and made a mental note to come check it out. Then, things were going well and everyone was taking care of themselves so I decided to go check out the tree. JUST in case there were any figs left. I didn’t have high expectations but it’s always fun to find a new tree anyway.
Much to my surprise, the tree was still loaded with figs. I then assumed it was a Caprifig because of this. As I got closer, I spotted some fog remnants hanging and it was clear they had been eaten by birds. Promising sign... Then, I got really excited as I found a couple that had been pecked by birds and I saw a deep red inside... oh yeah. I felt like I had just won the lottery.
I then found a few remaining figs, 2 of which were ripe and a few that were close. Just take a look. You might want to hold your mouth closed though so your chin doesn’t hit the floor... 😂
This is a fantastic fig. I think it might not have been caprified either. The seeds are small and hollow. I am saving half to do a sink test when I get home tonight. Wish me luck!!!🤞
