Description
Shasta Stria is a unique fig variety discovered by David Burke, also known as "The Fig Hunter," in Shasta County, California. This variety was found growing out from a fallen rock retaining wall along the edge of overgrown blackberry bushes and weeds. The figs are peachy-colored with darker striations, and the interior shares the same peachy hue. Despite its appearance, Shasta Stria is a deceivingly tart fig with mixed berry undertones and a maple syrup sweetness.
The figs are medium-sized and have a unique flavor profile that combines tartness with a sweet, syrupy finish. The exact type of this fig is still under evaluation to determine if it is a Common Fig . The mother tree no longer exists, and efforts are being made to preserve its genetics.
