Description
The Silin Dubh fig, identified as TFH-0276, is a remarkable variety found by The Fig Hunter, David Burke. It is a small to medium-sized fig with a distinctive Black skin and deep red interior. The fig has a potent berry flavor with a slight "zing," making it stand out among other varieties. The skin is thin, and the eye is small and open, contributing to its unique taste and texture. Silin Dubh figs have moderate skin toughness and a mild seed crunch, making them enjoyable to eat fresh.
TheFigHunter:
A tiny, Black variety, thin skin, small open eye, with a thick neck and deep red interior. Flavor has some “zing”, “tart” and “tang”, a “potent” complex/blackberry/raspberry berry. “Not sweet at all”. Description is based upon caprified figs. Not yet determined common.
The Fig Hunter
TFH-0276-Silíní Dubh was shared and released at the Nor Cal 2nd Annual Summer Fig Exchange where it was regarde by the judges as one of the top Black figs tasted.
Silin Dubh was discovered around the same time as the Jolly Rancher fig. Despite initial inconsistency in fruit quality, it has shown significant improvement in recent seasons. This variety is still rare and has been gaining popularity among fig enthusiasts for its unique flavor and characteristics.
Growers appreciate Silin Dubh for its unique berry flavor and the slight zing it offers. It's noted for its vigorous growth and reliable production, although it may not be the best choice for regions with high rainfall due to its low rain resistance.
