Description
Shasta Cranberry is a unique fig variety discovered by David Burke, also known as "The Fig Hunter," in Shasta County, California. This fig is notable for its dark, thin, velvety skin and bright red interior. It has minimal seed crunch and offers a tart flavor reminiscent of cranberries. This variety was found in 2020 in an area devastated by the Carr fire. While it is still under evaluation to confirm if it is a Common Fig , it has already garnered attention for its striking appearance and unique taste.
The Shasta Cranberry fig tree was found on a hillside and has a bright, almost glowing red pulp. The figs are described as medium-sized with a thick, jammy texture. The fig is considered one of the more beautiful discoveries and has a significant potential for cultivation.
David Burke: Described the fig as having a tart cranberry-like flavor with a bright red interior and thin, velvety skin. He noted that it was still producing edible fruit well into November.

This cultivar has a very dark berry interior and a Black exterior and produces beautiful fruit. This is my first year trying this cultivar and I’m supper excited to see how it does here in Florida.
