Description
The Amrita fig, discovered by Sacred Origin in 2019, is a large and visually striking fig with a closed eye. The fruit starts out green with purple stripes, eventually maturing to a deep purple or almost Black color around the Ostiole . The flavor profile is complex, featuring moderate berry notes with a background of sweet citrus, making it mouthwatering and juicy. The skin is thin, velvet-like, and melts in your mouth, but it can stain fingers easily. The tree is common and does not require the fig Wasp for pollination.
Named after the Sanskrit word for "immortality" and often referred to as nectar or ambrosia, the Amrita fig quickly gained popularity due to its unique and delicious taste. It was first introduced by Sacred Origin and has been noted for its resilience and high-quality fruit production in Northern California.
"The Amrita fig has an extraordinary flavor that stands out even among other top-tier varieties. It's a must-have for any serious fig enthusiast." - Lee Ann, Sacred Origin
"I've been impressed by the consistent quality and intense flavor of Amrita figs. They are a delightful addition to my collection." - Avid Fig Grower on OurFigs Forum
Growers praise the Amrita fig for its vigorous growth and the exceptional quality of its fruit. Although it may not be suitable for rainy climates due to its thin skin, it performs well under extreme heat and seems resistant to bugs and Fermentation . The fig's ability to maintain its flavor concentration even with large fruit size makes it a top-tier variety.
