Description
The Athens Purple Passion fig is a medium-sized fig variety with a distinct and delightful flavor profile. This fig features a thin green skin blushed with purple around the Ostiole . The interior is richly flavored with notes of cherry and berry, complemented by a mild citric tang. The mildly sweet and refreshing flavor is well-balanced, making it a favorite among fig enthusiasts.
Introduced by Sacred Origin, the Athens Purple Passion fig has gained popularity for its unique taste and attractive appearance. This Common Fig does not require the fig Wasp for pollination, making it easier to grow in various regions. The variety is well-suited for container growing, especially in areas with mild climates.
RosyPosy August 30, 2022:
Approx. 3 year old tree, 1st full growing season for me
So this tree set and dropped A TON of figs this season. I’m not sure if that’s typical, if it’s just adjusting and needs to mature more, or if it was from the heat & water issues of this year. I’ve had a few other trees drop a lot too, so I’m not holding it against this variety this season. The few that it did hold on to and ripen were nabbed by critters. This is the 2nd fig I’ve tasted off of it, and probably the last for the season. It was caprified.
It does have a certain brightness to it that could be likened to passion fruit, I’m not sure of the other flavors in it and would need to taste it again to try to pinpoint them. I wouldn’t say berry, figgy or cherry exactly, it’s something else. But whatever the case, it does taste good and I enjoyed eating it.
