Description
Green Goblin is a newly introduced Common Fig variety discovered in coastal North County, San Diego. Found and cultivated by an experienced grower, this fig has been trialed for multiple seasons, consistently producing high-quality fruit worthy of wider recognition. It boasts a green exterior with a dark red to purplish interior, offering a strong, lingering sweetness reminiscent of White Madeira #1. This variety has proven to be both vigorous and productive, ripening earlier than many comparable Adriatic-type figs—typically in mid-August in coastal California.
Growers who have tested Green Goblin report excellent flavor, notable productivity, and resistance to splitting despite its exceptionally soft skin when fully ripe. Even in its early years of production, the fruit has been of mid-to-large size, making it a desirable addition to any collection. Its ability to ripen fruit well into November suggests excellent adaptability across different climates. With its superior taste, reliable performance, and early ripening window, Green Goblin is shaping up to be a promising new addition for fig enthusiasts.
