Peter's honey mid-season fig August 21, 2018
open eye
small fruit (half size of the desert king)
late-ripening by 1 month after desert king
much sweeter than the desert king (level 7 sweet) making it a level 9 extreme sugary but the sweetness is enjoyable
best when picked without eye-opening and not too overly sweet (when it wrinkles it is a little too sweet for my taste)
if over ripen will taste like maple syrup in a fig
very smooth texture
skin is a little tougher than Desert King
If you had only space for one tree then go with the desert king. if you like to collect variety then you can add peter's honey for a more concentrated sweetness. If you had only space for one tree then go with the desert king. if you like to collect variety then you can add peter's honey for a more concentrated sweetness. But keep in mind a cool short summer Peter's Honey fig won't be as reliable as Desert King. Meaning it might not ripen in a bad summer.
Overall I'd say that Peter's Honey is a very good variety to have in zone 9A. It is still green and healthy, had a total of 9 figs on it's single trunk. I got it in September as a well formed 15" tree with 6 unripen figs on it, it ripened it's first fig on 12/25/21 and the best one so far ripened 12/28/21, a very tasty and refreshing treat.
