Description
Saleeb, also know as UCR -271-1 and DFIC 10, is a Persistent Caprifig developed and used in the University of California fig breeding program. It reliably produces Profichi (without needing the fig Wasp ) that contain ample pollen (shown in one of my photos). It also produces edible, though not very special, honey figs in the Mammoni crop (those dont have pollen, only the Profichi crop does). If you wanthand pollinate figs, this is an ideal fig. Since it has the Persistent Gene , it is also an ideal part of a breeding program for creating new varieties of common figs, i.e., figs that dont require pollination.
A yellow Persistent Caprifig used in the UCR breeding program. Closed eye. 5 lobes. Caprifigs are male figs. They are not considered edible. They are a source of fig pollen, which the Profichi crop ( Breba crop) produces. This fig is used to colonize the fig Wasp or to manually hand-pollinate your figs as I do. Persistent caprifigs are required if you want to breed common (parthenocarpic) female figs that do not require pollination to ripen fruit. Please follow my Fig Breeding Experiment for more details.
